This anime takes place at Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, an institution for high-achieving students. The main character, Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, is placed in Class D, the lowest-ranked class, and must navigate the school’s strict social hierarchy and political dynamics to rise to the top.
The anime tells us about a high school which on the surface is a utopia/heaven, but reality is something different, the classes in the school are divided by merit, and only the top classes receive favorable treatment. The class membership are permanent, but class rankings are not, therefore students in lower ranked classes can rise in rankings if they score better than those in the top ones.Additionally, in the lowest class, there are no bars on what methods can be used to get ahead.In this cutthroat school, can these students on lower classes can prevail against the odds and reach the top?
